I posted a video to our FaceBook page by Dan Brule’ that artfully communicates how conscious breathing is beneficial to us as a tool to change our state of emotion/tension.
He describes the breaths that we take when we experience different emotions as if they are fingerprints……In other words, we breathe differently according to how we feel.
He says, “The Magic Happens when we realize that by changing the way we breathe we can move from one (emotional) state to another”
Let the “Magic Happen” by noticing how you are breathing……..and respond. It is an amazingly simple and effective tool to help you to relax. When we are stressed, we breathe more shallowly, more quickly or hold our breath. When we are relaxed, it is easier to take a deep long breath or sigh. Noticing how you are breathing is a clue to how you are feeling and responding to stress with a breathing tool – such as pursed lip breathing or belly breathing can quickly become natural and automatic.
In addition to searching breathing techniques on the web, there is a complete description of how to do several breathing exercises in the resource section of Stress Solutions for Pregnant Moms.
I found a useful video on belly breathing here:
I also found a FREE app to help learn to belly breathe:
It has been a while since I have been pregnant, so I am not yet sure how the app will respond to lying upon your pregnant tummy. I look forward to hearing how the app works in the later stages of pregnancy <s>.
