This week’s blog explores a little known topic called Laughter Yoga. It is described in the resource section my book where you can earn 20 points relaxation credit for 10 minutes of laughing.
There are more than 2000 Laughter Clubs world wide. Club Pioneer Dr. Madan Kataria’s book is called “Laugh for No Reason.” Why Laugh for No Reason? In August 2010 the New Yorker Magazine reported that Dr. Andrew Weil said that laughter yoga could probably lower our nation’s health care costs.
Benefits of Laughter include:
The Production of “Happy Chemicals.” The exercise of core muscles to move stagnant energy throughout the body. The opportunity to breathe more deeply. Laughter provides us with a mental break that moves our mind from the worries of the day and into the present moment.
Dr. Kataria says children laugh 300-400 times a day! How many laughing baby videos have you found on YouTube – and I bet you can’t just watch it one time.
We all know that Laughter can become contagious!
I have a girlfriend who does this routinely: Whenever a car at a traffic light has the window down, she rolls her window down too and laughs heartily. Then she looks at the person next to her while she is laughing. When their eyes meet hers – it is very difficult for them to keep a straight face. In fact, people in the cars around her usually join her in loud unabashed laughter while waiting for traffic signals. It is a JOY to ride around in her car!
Start an Epidemic. Create a more joyful state with a greater sense of well being by finding something funny to laugh at or somebody to laugh with or by laughing………. for no reason at all.
